What a spooktacular week in first grade! We finished reading an informational text titled, What Do Your Do With A Tail Like This?. Students recalled many facts found in both texts and were able to identify features of an informational text. In math we assessed Chapter 3 and we will be beginning Chapter 4 on Monday. We have also been hard at work working on parts of speech, our vowel sounds /i/ and our spelling list was <ll> patterns.
Looking ahead to next week we will be learning…
This week’s spelling words follow the <ck>
We will begin A Fine, Fine School which is a fictional text. We will be reintroducing story elements such as beginning, middle and end, we will also be looking at characteristics, how authors describe characters, word choice. We will be identifying the central message of the story and compare and contrast two fictional texts.
This week we will use continue working on identifying parts of speech. Students will be learning about proper nouns and pronouns.
Students will continue working on their informational pieces.
We will begin Chapter 4 Subtraction Strategies. We will be testing out a new homework method; students are still being asked to complete 4 total pages but allowing for flexibility as to when they are completed. Students will be asked to complete 2 worksheets on Monday and 2 on Wednesday. This will allow for Tuesday and Thursday to be additional time to work on spelling.
We will continue looking at our community and how we fit into our community. We will be looking at maps and what makes a community whole.
This week we will continue talking about Jesus and how he rose to new life. We will continue to learn about Jesus’ followers and what he taught them. We will learn how Jesus loved us.
