Week of November 5th-November 9th

What a wonderful week in first grade! In reading we started read A Fine, Fine School this week.  In math began Chapter 4 and will continue to practice our subtraction strategies next week. We continue to work on parts of speech, our vowel sounds /a/ and our spelling list was <ck> patterns.

Looking ahead to next week we will be learning…


This week’s spelling words follow the <ss> and <zz> pattern


We will continue reading A Fine, Fine School which is a fictional text. We will be looking at characteristics, how authors describe characters, word choice. We will be identifying the central message of the story and compare and contrast two fictional texts.


This week we will use continue working on identifying parts of speech. Students will be learning about plurals.


Students will continue working on their informational pieces, we will finish their writing this week.


We will continue and complete Chapter 4 Subtraction Strategies. We will be testing on Friday. We will have three days of review in class to focus on the strategies and methods taught in Chapter 4.


We will begin Unit 3 All About Animals. We will look at what it takes to be living and nonliving, what animals need, how animals are different and how we can group them.

This week we will begin Chapter 10  where we will learn that Jesus died and rose to new life, we will learn that Jesus sent his followers to his followers and that Holy Spirit is the third person of the Blessed Trinity.

  • End of Trimester 1 is November 16th.

  • Open House is Tuesday November 13th from 6:00-7:30.
  • November 20th is an 11:30 Dismissal; there will be NO lunch, but we will still have snack.
