News From Room 111

Religion:  We will begin rehearsing our Thanksgiving Prayer Service this week.  Each child will have a part to practice at home.  These parts DO NOT need to be memorized or filmed they only need to be read fluently.  Please help your child practice at home.  Please remember that the November Prayer will be due on FLIPGRID Friday November 20th.

Reading:  Our new story is called “Treasure in the Trees”.  As we read the story the students will learn to recognize character and narrator points of view as well as determining the central messages in stories.

Grammar / Phonics:  The students will work with R-Controlled, and multisyllabic words.  Our Grammar Simple Solutions Quiz will be Friday, November 13th.

Writing:  This week the students will write a Thanksgiving themed story.

Spelling:  Our spelling words contain long o words.  These words will contain the LONG O sound made with oa, ow, and O by itself.   Both of our Spelling test with be Friday November 13th.

Math:  The students will continue learning to multiply as they learn to skip count by any number using a number line or a ruler.  The students have been using a close pin or paper clip to keep track of the moves along the ruler.  The class will also solve multi step problems as they draw pictures to represent the information they are given.  As your child is completing their homework PLEASE encourage them to show and label their work.   Our Math Simple Solutions Quiz will be taken on Friday November 13.

Science:  The class will continue to read and talk about the improvements that have been made in simple technology items this week.  Please be sure that your child has signed up for an item to research and talk about on Monday, November 23rd.  I know that the kids have been writing the 24th in their assignment notebooks but I just realized that we have a half day on the 24th for conferences so we will send Monday and Tuesday listing to presentation.
