If your family has a last names starting with M-Z , and you were not able to bring in supplies last week, please send them in this upcoming week. Classroom supplies included tissues, baby wipes, zip lock quart sized baggies, disinfecting wipes, and paper towels. Thank you!
Religion: Students will continue to learn about the marks of the church. The marks are that the church is One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic. As a class we will go to the 9 am School Mass on Thursday, January 17th. The January prayer, the beautiful Prayer of St. Francis, will be recited January 31th. FYI third grade will be hosting the Mass on Tuesday, February 27.
Phonics: Students will review unit 4: contractions, plurals, and suffixes on Monday and have the Unit 4 test on Tuesday, Jan 15th.
Spelling: The weekly spelling unit, # 18, is a review unit. The tested words will be: blush, charm. cage, wren, await, gem, stung, siren, itch brace, stack, flood, aside, patch, and rage. The unit 18 spelling test will be on Friday, January 18th.
Language: The January set of poems were passed out last week. Students will be reciting their selected poem in front of the class on January 3oth.
Reading: Students will continue to read All About Earth using text features to help determine the main idea and key details. The next book report will be due January 25th. Students will be able to select any book they wish for this report. They can even reread an old favorite. Information about this report will go home next week. Students should be reading at least 15 minutes nightly and should be filling in the reading record for the Great America Reading Challenge to receive a free pass to Great America. On Wednesday(111) and Friday(112) students will be taking the 2nd Aspire Interim Reading test to help them prepare for the Aspire tests which will be taken the first week of April.
Writing: Students will work on informative/ explanatory writing.
Grammar: This week students will continue to practice various skills in Simple Solutions Grammar and will also classify sentences with the Shurley English program. There will be a short Simple Solutions Quiz on Friday.
Math: Students will take the GO Math Chapter 5 Multiplication Test on Monday, January 14th. The weekly Simple Solutions Quiz will be on Friday, January 18th. Students should have already memorized the multiplication facts 0-12. In Chapter 6 students will begin learning division strategies.
Science: If students did not already get the opportunity to share their Technology poster and what they learned on 1/10 or 1/11, they will be able to share it next week.
Social Studies: Students will review why people move, immigrants, starting a new way of life, citizenship, the Great Migration, and intermediate directions. They will then take the Chapter 3 Test on Thursday, January 17th. Next week students will also learn about Martin Luther King and complete some MLK activities.
Dress Down in the 50’s or 80’s to raise money for Misericordia on Wednesday January 16th.
Popcorn Sale: To help raise additional money for Misericordia there will be flavored popcorn sold during lunch 1/14- 1/18 for $2 per bag. Flavors are: cheese, kettle, cookie and fruit.
Lunch/Recess Volunteers: 111 and 112 would love it if you could volunteer for recess & lunch supervision. Third grade has recess/lunch from 11:30 – 12:15. Please see the class page to sign up or click the link below:
