Religion: This week will be devoted to the rosary and preparing for the 9 am Thanksgiving Prayer Service (and collection for the food pantry) which will be on Tuesday, November 20th. Students will have a Joyful Mystery rosary test on Thursday. Please come to the Thanksgiving Prayer service and pray with us if your schedule permits. The students will be reciting the November prayer on 11/30.
Phonics: Students will continue to divide words into syllables, identify r-controlled vowels and then review consonant digraphs, compound words, and the 3 sounds of “y,” before we finish unit 3 with a test on Friday.
Language: Students will recite their selected poem on November 15th. Good expression is expected. This week students will also finish writing their Thanksgiving stories.
Spelling: The weekly spelling unit 12 is a review of units 7-11. We will review each pattern we studied: Vowel -consonant -e, Long a: ai, ay; Long e: ee, ea; Long i: 1, igh; Long o: ow, oa, o. The unit words are: stripe, bail, cream, bind, groan, sold, thigh, bead, bait, brave, fellow, rind, creep, sway and grove. The weekly spelling test will be on Friday, November 16th.
Grammar: The weekly 10 question Simple Solution Grammar quiz will be on Friday, November 16th. This quiz will be on lessons 37-40 and will focus on: identifying simple sentences, writing book titles and a correct address, adjectives, subject pronouns, helping and the main verb, homophones, articles, adding suffixes to a word ending in y, and conjunctions.
Reading: In the ReadyGen program we will be starting our second module. Students will be reading a variety of texts to understand the central messages or main ideas by closely looking at the details to support them. Students will also be understanding how different text features help convey information. This week our story will be a nonfiction selection, The Moon Seems to Change. Students should be reading and working on their historical fiction diorama book report which is due November 28th.
Math: Students have successfully practiced using the commutative, associative, and the distributive properties with multiplication. They are learning x2, x4, x5, x10 and x7. This week students will practice using the multiplication table, x8, x9, and more problem solving. Students should be memorizing the multiplication facts 0 -12. Please help your student at home to learn these vital facts. The Unit test will be next week. The weekly Simple Solutions Quiz will be on Friday.
Science: We are looking forward to a special Fermi-lab assembly on Tuesday about Cryogenics presented by “Mr. Freeze.” Students will also learn how technology has changed through time and how it affects people as we continue in Unit 2, The Engineering Process.
Relaxation Program: Monday students begin the 3 part in-school relaxation program. This connects to our new Red Ribbon Award about caring for our children and keeping them healthy, physically and mentally. This great program is part of our science curriculum. After the conclusion of the three sessions students will be tested on their new knowledge.
Social Studies: Students will be learning about Veteran’s Day.
Baby Wipes: We have one half of a pack of baby wipes. Students use these before lunch every day. If you could sent in a pack or two this would be most appreciated. Thank you to the family who sent in one last week!
