Religion: This year third grade will be attending the 8 am Mass on Thursdays. It would be great if they were also able to attend a weekend Mass. To prepare students for Mass we read the Sunday Gospel story to the students and then have them solve some puzzles in the Worship Bulletin about the Gospel.
Grammar: Students have been working in the Simple Solutions Grammar book. On Tuesdays and Thursdays a Simple Solutions Grammar lesson will be homework. On Fridays there will be a weekly grammar quiz over the previous lessons. We have covered study skills, capitalization, and punctuation rules in Shurley English.
Reading: Every student should be reading a chapter book for their first book report which will be due on Thursday, September 19th. This past week students read and discussed a selected chapter from the Lemonade War. Next week we will begin a fun chapter book called the Gasping Garbage. We are working on reading stamina and emphasizing the skills of characterization, motivation, and sequence.
Language: Students should have decided which September poem that they want to memorize and share with the class. The poems will be recited on September 23rd.
Math: Simple Solutions homework will be on Mondays and Wednesdays. On Fridays students will take the weekly Simple Solutions math quiz. In the Go Math program students will usually have a homework review paper Monday – Thursday. On Fridays in class students will usually work on their chrome books and in their interactive math notebooks.
Social Studies: Students are learning what makes a community.
Field trip: Students are excited about our first field trip that will be on Tuesday, September 24th. A permission form was given to each child today. We are going to a fabulous place, The Isle a la Cache Living Museum, in Romeoville. Students will participate with interactive learning about long ago history (back in the 1750’s) of our Illinois area. They will learn about the Potawatomi people and the French Voyageurs. We will need a few chaperones to accompany us. Permission slips are due by Sept. 9th.
Fall Fest: Fall fest is just days away, September 5 -8th. Be sure to get your Mega Passes early and plan on enjoying several fun- filled days and evenings of rides, games, food, and friends.
Hair decorations: The fancy headbands that have ears, sparkles, and other protruding objects are not part of the St. Cletus uniform, therefore they can not be worn at school. Socks: Please save the fancy cool socks for when we have a crazy sock day. The uniform socks are to be solid color red, blue, white or black.
Lunch Volunteers: Third graders still love to have their parents come to school for lunch and recess, and we do too! Please consider signing up for a day when you are available. Sign up on the parent page.
