Terrific Third Grade October 11, 2019

Religion:    To Honor Mary we will be learning and praying the Joyful Mysteries of the rosary in class.  We will also begin chapter 3 in our We Believe text book about Jesus  raising Lazarus from the dead. We will attend the 8 am Mass on Thursday and help then prepare the students for the weekend Mass by going over the Gospel and having them complete the worship bulletin.

Grammar: Skills students  will be practicing this week include action and being verbs, articles, subjects of a sentence,  identifying adjectives,  irregular spelling plurals, using subject pronouns, changing y to i before a suffix ending, capitalization,  “f” sound spelled ph or gh,  identifying proper nouns and underlining book titles.   On Friday students will take their 8th weekly grammar quiz.

Reading: Students will continue to work in small groups reading   Cam Jensen and Horrible Harry books mystery novels and compare them to others by the same author. The October mystery book report will be due on October 28th.  Book report forms and directions will be going home on Tuesday.

Spelling:  Unit 8 teaches students about the long a vowel  patterns of ai and ay.  They will practice using synonyms, verb tenses, understanding some words can be either a noun or a verb,  replacing vowels, and proofreading.  The spelling 8 test will be on Friday, October 18th.

Phonics:   Students will now focus on the long vowel patterns.

Math:    We are finishing the data chapter in our Go Math program.  Students will review and take the chapter 2 test on Wednesday.  We will then begin the next Go Math chapter which covers the “understanding” of  multiplication. On Friday students will take the regular Simple Solutions math quiz. The quiz will have problems about time, measurement, fractions, sequencing numbers,beginning multiplication,  two step problems,  adding and subtraction with regrouping, <>, and rounding.

Science:  Students have been involved with science through their STREAM classes and a few activities in our classroom. Now we will begin the Fusion text and  learn how scientists investigate questions, use models, and use tools.
