Third Grade News and Up Coming Events

Third Graders are having a great time learning news concepts from all areas of the curriculum.

Third Grade News

Religion:  The students will continue to learn about Jesus’ life when he was a young child.  The vocabulary words that the class is becoming more familiar as we go through the first chapter are: Blessed Trinity, Incarnation, Prophet, Repent, Public Ministry, Disciple, and Apostle.   The students did a great job at the first all school Mass of the year.

Reading:   The students have been enjoying the story “Lemonade Wars” and will continue to work with the story answering questions and defining vocabulary words. The story has been added to our GOOGLE CLASSROOM on the STREAM pages that the students can read it at home.  Please take some time to sit with your child and log  into their READYGEN accounts and read the story with them.  A link for the READYGEN site is on the GOOGLE CLASSROOM / STREAM.

Grammar / Phonic:  The class will be working with the sounds of HARD and SOFT G and C in words.  They will learn which vowels help G & C make their hard sounds and which ones help make their soft sounds in words.  The students will also learn about initial, medial and final consonant sounds in words as they work in the Phonics books.  The class is reviewing GRAMMAR concepts as they work on GRAMMAR SIMPLE SOLUTIONS lessons each day.  Students will take Grammar Simple Solutions Quiz 3 on Friday September 10th.

Spelling:  Due to the short week we will be taking a break from our spelling series.  Instead the class will review the words from the first two lists as they write sentences and stories using the words.

Math:  The students will continue learning and practicing different strategies for adding larger numbers.  They will review and practice rounding numbers to the nearest 100’s and 10’s.
