May 5th
- Unit 17 Test
Math:We have had a fun time learning about the different kinds of angles, measuring angles, and joining and separating angles. We’ve even created some angle art. Our next unit is fractions! This unit will cover all things fractions, however for the next two weeks we will cover concepts such as: equivalent fractions, common denominators, simplest form, adding and subtracting fractions.
Reading: Before spring break we wrapped up Because of Winn-Dixie. This week we have familiarized ourselves with Gary Paulsen as a precursor to our new novel Hatchet. We are 3 chapters into our new novel and it has been a wild ride. These next two weeks we will use the novel to grow our vocabulary, annotation skills, characterization, sequencing, and using evidence from the novel to support a claim.
Spelling/Grammar/Writing: Our spelling list for the coming week will focus on the complex consonant: soft g. We will look into the meaning of the words, completing analogies, as well as practicing our dictionary skills. In grammar we are working on identifying helping verbs and we will be using acquired knowledge to parse sentences, identifying subject verb agreement, prepositions/objects of the prepositions, editing using proof marks, and correcting fragment/run-on sentences.
Science: The space unit has been wrapped up! 4th grade is onto motion.
Social Studies: We’ve worked on reading a variety of maps and reviewed the 5 themes of geography with a mini project where the students create their own island! We will be using that knowledge as we explore the 5 regions of the United States!
Religion: We’ve learned all about Holy Week and Easter! Now it is on to review for our Religious Assessment.
Please be sure to revisit the dress code for 3-8th.
Thank you so much for your constant support and cooperation.
