F.Y.I. (Four Your Information) Newsletter 5/5-5/19

Here’s a look at what is going on the next two weeks in fourth grade: 

Monday, May 8th 

  • May Crowning @ 9:30

Tuesday, May 9th

  • Mass of the Holy Spirit 8:00am-4th grade led
    • Students should be dropped off at their regular drop off points and head into the classroom. School doors will open at 7:45 am to allow students time to put away their belongings and head to the church as a class. Please do not drop students off at the church. Staff will escort students who are late from the school to the church.

Wednesday, May 10th

  • 4th &5th Chicago History Museum Field Trip- Students will not have band during the school day BUT will/ should attend after school band practice.
      • Students should wear their gym uniforms and sneakers. Students who won pajama day passes will be able to wear their pajamas on Thursday. 
  • DO NOT order hot lunch or milk as we will be eating lunch at the museum.
    • Students MUST bring a sack lunch, no glass containers or bottles, everything must be tossable. Make sure that your child’s lunch is labeled with their name, school, and grade. 

Friday, May 12th

  • Unit 19 Spelling Test
  • Midwest States and Capitals Quiz

Tuesday, May 16th

Friday, May 19th

  • Unit 20 Test
  • Southeast States and Capitals Quiz

Math: Last week was our iReady diagnostic testing. We are working on all things fractions for the next two weeks. Our concentration is simplification, equivalent fractions, +/- fractions, and fractions, percents, and decimals. 

Reading: We are well on our way to finishing our novel, Hatchet. Over the next two weeks we will be using the novel to identify the types of conflict, character development, sequencing, analyzing quotes/ figurative language and using textual evidence to support their opinion. 

Spelling/Grammar/Writing: Our spelling list for the coming week will focus on double consonants, final -le. We will look into the meaning of the words, completing analogies, as well as practicing our dictionary skills. In grammar we are working on identifying helping verbs and we will be using acquired knowledge to parse sentences, identifying subject verb agreement, prepositions/objects of the prepositions, editing using proof marks, and correcting fragment/run-on sentences.

Science: Students are learning about the 3 states of matter. 

Social Studies: We have learned about the Northeast and we are moving on to the Midwest and Southeast. We will be looking at the states and capitals for the Midwest & Southeast, as well as, the land, natural resources, culture, people, and landmarks 

Religion: Students have familiarize themselves with the parts of Mass and have been practicing for their student-led mass on Tuesday. They will also be learning about evangelization.

Please be sure to revisit the dress code for 3-8th.
