Math: We are continuing to work on solving multi-step word problems, and multiplying 2 and 3 digit numbers with regrouping. We will begin working on multiplying using regrouping, which is the “traditional” way many of us have learned. Students should continue working on memorizing their basic facts at home.

Reading: We have started our first novel study of the year, Frindle. This week students took a moment to read up on the author Andrew Clements. We will be focusing on reading skills such as visualization, tone, character traits, metaphors, and dictionary skills.

Spelling/Grammar/Writing: Our spelling list for the coming week will focus on the r-controlled vowels Îr (as in dirt) and ȗr (as in fur). Using their spelling list students will work on sorting their words based on pronunciation. The following week, students will complete a spelling unit review of the past five units. In Grammar, students are continuing to master the parts of speech: nouns, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, verbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections.

Science: This week students will prepare for and take their unit review test to show that they are able to answer the following: What Do Scientists Do? What Skills Do Scientists Use? How Do Scientists Collect and Use Data? Why Do Scientists Compare Results? What Kinds of Models Do Scientists Use? Students are also presenting their model classrooms this week.

Social Studies: We are wrapping up the Northeast these next two weeks. We are looking at a few more tourist attractions as well as the culture and regional customs.

Religion: Fourth grade has been hard at work preparing for our All Saints Mass this Monday, November 1st. This day commemorates all the saints of the church, both known and unknown, who have attained heaven. We are going to resume CH. 3 in Religion, which is about Jesus teaching the Beatitudes as  the way to true happiness. In this chapter the students will learn that God gives us the freedom to choose to love and follow him. They will learn that choices that lead us away from God are called sins.

Please be sure to revisit the dress code for 3-8th.

Thank you so much for your constant support and cooperation!

P.S For a house point have your child tell us the code word: gather
