Hi kindergarten families!
This is where you will find our kindergarten newsletter each week. It will be posted by 4pm on Friday. Please check it before Monday to find out what’s coming up next in kindergarten! This week, I’ll just post a few important reminders/items and then I will begin our regular newsletter next week.
- Thank you for separating snack and lunch. Continue to make sure your child knows the difference. This helps us out SO much!
- Send a filled water bottle with water only. Thank you!
- Please no blankets or stuffed animals for kindergarten rest time. I know this is different from preschool/JK. We have a quick 25-30 minute, active, ‘quiet time’. It goes by fast! Not having the extra items ensures we keep things moving along and stay on schedule. 🙂
- We will be meeting our 8th grade buddies next week. We will begin attending Mass on Tuesday, September 10th. For new families, we attend 8am Mass each week. On 8am Mass days, students should still be dropped off at their regular door, but doors will open 5 minutes early at 7:45. You’re welcome to drop your child off a few minutes early on Tuesday so we can get unpacked, use the bathroom and get over to church by 8am.
- Social emotional learning is an important part of kindergarten all year long and especially in these first weeks. We’ve been working hard on learning to understand good choices vs poor choices, how to be a good friend and to create an overall happy, caring learning environment. Our current kindness project in KINDergarten is earning “God’s superstar” stickers. Each time your child is caught doing something kind, he/she is given a sticker. Mrs. Zontos or I have to catch your child or a fellow classmate has to “tell on them.” It’s the kind of ‘tattling’ we like in kindergarten. 🙂 If your child comes home with one of those stickers, be sure to ask about it! Your child was caught being kind and that’s something to celebrate. 🙂
- A few kids were asking about milk at lunchtime. If your child is not receiving milk but you would like him/her to, just send Mrs. Townsend an email in the office–ktownsend@stcletusparish.com. Also let me know if you need any help or have any questions about hot lunch.
Finally, within the next two weeks or so, if you could send a pair of over the ear headphones for your kindergarten student to have at school, that would be great. Please send these in by Thursday, September 5th. We will need these for our iReady lessons which we will begin soon. Iready is our school-wide online program for reading and math. It monitors progress in those two areas by putting each student on a personalized learning path and provides me with weekly data so I can better personalize and differentiate my instruction. We will spend 30 minutes on reading and 30 minutes on math each week. They will keep their headphones in the classroom and I will return them at the end of the year. I will provide them each with a storage pouch.
Keep up the great work kinder-cardinals! And new families, I know there’s A LOT to learn these first few weeks. Just reach out if you have any questions! 🙂
See you next week!
Mrs. Mahr
