Kindergarten Newsletter, May 13

Upcoming Events/Mark your Calendars:

  • Thursday, May 26th: Picnic lunch with our 8th grade buddies. Please refer to the green note sent home.
  • Thursday, June 2: Kindergarten Celebration, 10am; students are dismissed for the summer after the celebration; please look for the celebration invitation in your child’s folder.

This Week:

Now that the Mother’s Day Tea is behind us (we had SO much fun), we are now getting ready for the KINDERGARTEN CELEBRATION. Please look in your child’s folder for an invitation to the End of the Year celebration. All are invited! Children can wear whatever you choose, just keep in mind they will sometimes be sitting on the stage.  They will be singing, dancing and they will be ready to have their moment in the spotlight.  Each child has so much to celebrate!

We attended the May Crowning Mass on Monday and got to see Mary, the queen of heaven, crowned with flowers.

We attended the 8th grade ribbon ceremony on Friday afternoon in church.  The kids loved seeing their buddies as they received their special ribbons representing their accomplishments at St. Cletus and their readiness to begin the next phase of their educational journey.

Next Week:

We will begin end of the year assessments for their final report cards.

We will be busy practicing new songs and remembering old ones for the Kindergarten Celebration song presentation.

Language Arts:

  • Daily journaling: we will continue generate topics and find ways to expand our thoughts using additional sentences or the word ‘because.’
  • Fiction and nonfiction butterfly books: we will use a graphic organizer to keep track of the nonfiction information we are learning about caterpillars/butterflies.
  • High frequency words: jump, down, funny
  • Guided reading: practicing reading fluency, word work
  • We will work on a special project for our 8th grade buddies

Math: We will begin our FINAL Go Math workbook, Chapter 11!  Chapter 11 is all about measurement, including nonstandard measurement.  This means we will be using all kind of things to measure objects, including paperclips, cubes, blocks and more!

  • Length and Width using rulers and nonstandard measurement
  • Compare two objects (taller/shorter, bigger/smaller, faster/slower)
  • Review: addition, subtraction, skip counting, counting, number recognition, etc.

Religion/Science:

  • We will continue to honor our Mother Mary by praying the Hail Mary each morning.
  • We can pray anytime, anywhere!  We will review the prayers we have learned this year and will learn a song that reminds us to go to church this summer with our families.  It goes like this, “come along with me, to my Father’s house, to my Father’s house, to my Father’s house. Come along with me to my Father’s house where’s there’s love, love, love.”
  • We will continue to observe the caterpillar to butterfly life cycle in our classrooms.  We officially have some chrysalises in one room! Of course, we are documenting our observations just as real scientists would.
