This Week:
Buddy picnic: The kids had a great time with their buddies on Thursday. Thanks for sending in the extra treats! The sun came out just as we were getting ready to go outside. It was perfect!
Butterflies: We had 4 butterflies emerge from their chrysalises! We finished our observations and then released them Friday afternoon. After releasing we had Eden’s birthday treat outside and watched the butterflies fly around. It was a fun Friday afternoon!
Poetry journals: The children illustrated their FINAL poetry journal songs! Very exciting! These will come home soon in their kindergarten memories envelopes which I’m working on putting together now.
Next Week:
Assessments, kindergarten celebration practice and lots of outdoor play time! These things will keep us very busy next week! We are also going to work on shoe tying at rest time.
Language Arts: Assessments next week!
- High Frequency words: focus words: little, away
- Journaling/writing: I can’t wait for you to look at your child’s journals from the second half of the school year. It’s so fun to see what they view as the “important things” 🙂 You will love seeing their progress.
- Interactive writing and word work: word work continues next week with a mix of words containing digraphs (ch, sh, th, wh, ck), dipthongs (oy, oi, ow, ou, oo) and long vowels
- Guided reading, fluency journals: our final week of reading groups begins next week! Please be sure all book buddy bags are turned back in!
- Read alouds: We will be finishing up Elephant and Piggie books and starting our “goodbye kindergarten” books.
Math: Assessments next week!
We will be finishing up chapter 10 next week! We will start our final chapter on measurement next week. We will be learning about length, height and weight.
Math Review:
- Addition and subtraction practice
- Identify word problems as “addition” or “subtraction”, generate an equation and solve.

- Counting to 20 by 2s
- Count forward from a given number (except 1)

Religion/Science:
- We will make our final bean/popcorn seed observations and then I will be sending the seeds home. Please consider planting them in two separate containers and continuing the planting fun at home. We will plant the seeds in dirt in our classroom as well and will continue to observe.
- Come along with me, to my Father’s house, to my Father’s house, to my Father’s house! Come along with me, to my Father’s house where there’s love, love, love! We will begin our final unit in religion focusing on our church and the importance of staying close to God this summer by attending Mass. A new song will remind us of the love, joy and peace we find when attending Mass together!
