This week in Preschool our theme was Fairytales and our letter of the week was letter “R.” The children were able to understand that fairytales are fiction stories and practice retelling various fairytales by putting events in order. We also practiced using illustrations to tell a fairytale by using different art materials. We learned that fairytales have magic, talking animals or items, teaches us a lesson, have a special beginning and ending, and are make believe stories. Some of our letter “R” words included: rainbow, robot, rabbit, rain, race, rocket, recess, roller skates, red, rock, and rooster.

Centers included:

  • R is for Rainbow & Robot
  • Roll and cover crown math game
  • Little Red Riding Hood sequence
  • Jack and the Beanstalk illustration
  • Story retelling with pictures

Next week week we will complete a letter review of letters “A-R.” We will also focus on garden by discussing what a plant needs to grow and different kinds of gardens. The children will make various crafts and read both fiction and non-fiction books about gardens. The dramatic play area will turn into a flower shop for children to explore and learn through play!
