This week in Religion, we finished up talking about what Mass is in general. We will be starting to look at it more closely, as we prepare for First Communion. Each Monday, we continue to work on our Second Step program, which helps us with our social-emotional learning.
In Grammar, we are practicing classifying sentences with prepositional phrases. It’s been a bit of a bumpy start, but with continued practiced, I’m sure that it will get easier. In Phonics, the topic of the week has been contractions and writing plural nouns. They’ve had to decide whether to add an –s or –es. We’ve finished our novel The BFG did some fun review of it in reading, and have written a new story about being stuck in a snow globe. We’ll be finishing those up next week. Also next week, we will be skipping spelling to begin our poetry unit.
The class has been practicing adding and subtracting two 3-digit numbers. Most can do the steps, but it seems computation is a hiccup. Please have your child practice basic facts daily to help with the automaticity. There are apps for this, as well as good old fashioned deck of cards and flashcards. I sent a few games before Christmas that your child can play as well to help. Here is a fun website that has practice games.
The class has learned about goods, services, income, and taxes. They’ve also discovered who Florence Nightingale was and her wonderful contribution to our world. We’ll continue with this unit through next week.
