Second-2-None: Week of April 25

We have quite a bit going on in Religion. We’ve been practicing how to receive Holy Communion. We have also been practicing for May Crowning. A letter about this mass went home today. Please be sure to read the information carefully and let me know if you have any questions.

In Language Arts, we have begun learning about and classifying prepositions, which can be tough when we first begin. We will be classifying sentences with prepositional phrases throughout the end of the year. In Phonics, we continue to add suffixes to base words. The class will continue with this skill through next week. We read a short nonfiction story entitled Danger! Earthquakes and learned quite a few facts. Next week we will begin on our informational poster. Cursive is coming along well. You will see more class work completed in cursive as we continue through the end of the school year.

In Math, we are looking at and analyzing data … 2nd grade style. We’ve read and created picture graphs and tally charts. We’ve looked at reading information from a bar graph, while next week we create bar graphs. We will finish up the chapter next week and then move on to our last chapter, which is geometry.

We will have our Social Studies test on Tuesday, May 3. The text, lesson review packet, and list of what to study was sent home earlier this week. Please have your child study a little each day. We study in class as well, but it helps them to study at home. Then, we will move back to science.

Session 6 Online Journal AND Course Final Journal

It is truly a busy time for second grade. Please take special note of the events happening over the next couple of weeks.

  • Be sure to mark your calendar for Communion Practice. The 11AM Communion Mass will have practice on Wednesday, May 4, at 6:30 PM. The 1 PM Communion Mass will have practice on Friday, May 6, also at 6PM. We will meet in church.
  • Communion is just a week away. There are 2 Communion Masses. Mrs. Campbell will review directions for arrival to the Communion Day Mass at the practice. Please be sure to attend the practice.
  • On Monday, May 9, the second graders, along with the eighth graders, will help lead the school in the May Crowning Mass. Mass will begin at 9:30 AM. Information about the Mass went home today via a hard-copy letter. Please be sure to read it carefully and let me know if you have any questions about May Crowning. Communicants are asked to come to school dressed in his/her Communion clothes.
  • After the May Crowning Mass, the Second-grade class will take a class photo in the church. An order form went home earlier this week. The picture will be taken by Sara Hodak. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
  • Please look around your home for a Social Studies textbook. We are missing a couple of books and do need them back ASAP. Thank you.
  • Please remember to send a water bottle with your child that can be refilled throughout the day. Thank you!
