Second-2-None: Week of Sept. 6

We are getting into the swing of things rather well. The class has learned the rules, expectations and most routines. We’ve been working hard on iReady too. What troopers!!

This week, we finished talking about what is a disciple and listed ways that we can all be a disciple of Jesus. We distinguished between Apostles and disciples. In addition, we talked about the wonderful story of Pentecost. We’ve begun to also look at the Seven Sacraments. We will continue with that next week.

In Language, we’ve finished our chapter about the rules for capitalization and punctuation. However, these will be used throughout the year, so as to really familiarize ourselves with them. We’ll have our first Grammar test on Wednesday of next week. There’s nothing they need to study for this though. Phonics continues with short vowel sounds. We’ll be working with these throughout next week as well. We’ve finished reading our first story Trouble at the Sandbox, and we have used it to study characters and setting so far. We’ll continue to use this story next week to analyze the problem/solution structure of the story.

We will finish Chapter 1 of Math next week. Chapter 2 focuses on numbers to 1,000. On Fridays, we will often (but not always) work on our iReady My Path lessons. There will be times that we do some fun different things too, like solving a Math Mystery based on clues that we receive.

In Science, we will start to talk about technology in our world and the design process. We’ll cover how technology isn’t just tablets and computers but anything made to meet needs and solve problems, like a toothbrush or pump in a soap bottle.
