Hello parents and families!

Thursday, October 3rd is Picture Day! Please bring your child’s picture forms and dress up! Please make sure to prepare an outfit that is still within dress code, and comfortable for the entire day!
Friday, October 11th we have an early dismissal at 2:00 PM, there will not be aftercare.
We do not have school Monday, October 14th to recognize Columbus Day & Indigenous Peoples Day
What we are learning this week Sept 30-Oct 4th & next week October 7-11
Religion: We are learning about the seven Sacraments. We have been focusing on Baptism and what it means for us to belong to the family of God. We will learn about the Sacrament of Confirmation next week. We have also spent time learning about Saint Therese of Lisieux and have changed our religion wall to honor the month of the Holy Rosary! The goal by October 11th is to have the 7 Sacraments memorized.
Math: We are learning about Place Value this week, representing hundreds as groups of tens, understanding three digit numbers, as well as representing three digit numbers. Next week we will finish unit 4 by learning to represent numbers with hundred, tens and ones and place value to 1,000. We focus on how to use mental strategies to solve problems.
Phonics: This week we are learning about Vowel Teams. We are practicing spelling words with vowel teams as well. WE are going over Closed and open syllables, as well as closed syllable exceptions, such as old, olt, ost, ild and ind. Next week we will review these concepts as well as introduce Base Word and Suffixes! (Making words plural using –s, -es)
Science: This week in Science we learned about heating and cooling, and what it means for matter to change using the terms reversible or irreversible. Next week we will begin Unit 3 and begin learning about the Earth’s surface and bodies of water.
Social Studies: We will learn more this week about communities and the differences between an Urban, suburban and rural area and connect this to our own neighborhood! Next week we will talk in more detail about laws, voting, and Illinois’ capitol.
iReady: We will begin practicing math and reading in iReady on our chrome books! We will make individual goals as well as class goals! We will have a reward as a class for meeting our iReady goals.
A friendly reminder to become Virtus Trained! Virtus Training can be found on the Archdiocese of Chicago Website. Please make sure to have training done before volunteering for our parties and field trips upcoming this year. I would greatly appreciate all of your help in volunteering this year.
