Religion:  Monthly Prayer will be recited to me on Thursday September 23rd.  This week we will take the end of Chapter One test.  Look for a study guide to complete as homework on Monday Night.  Please be sure that your child completes all of the page with help from the Religion Book that will be sent home on Monday night as well.  Please also remember that Tuesday is our all school Mass at 8:00am.  The doors open at 7:45 to allow everyone time to get their backpacks to their desk and as a class head over to Church.  Please also remember to have your child go to the washroom before getting into the car to go to school.

Reading:  Last week we started a new book in our ReadyGen reading series called “The Case of the Gasping Garbage”.  The story is about two fifths grade detective scientist who help their classmates solve mysteries.  This week we will continue reading “The Case of the Gasping Garbage” (Chapters 3 & 4) as well as answering questions centered around our readings. The story is attached to our GOOGLE CLASSROOM ~ CLASSWORK page so that the students can reread the book on their own.

Spelling:  The words this week contain the vowel combinations /oi/ and /ou/.  As we go through the week the students will be working with the words to complete analogies, use context clues and find rhyming words to strengthen their knowledge of the sounds these vowel combinations make in words. Look for spelling book in your child’s backpack on Tuesday night.  The book is being sent home to help with the weekly Tuesday night homework assignment.  PLEASE be sure to send the book back to school Wednesday.   Our spelling words this week went home on Friday to give the students time enough to study them for a test on Thursday the 23rd because of the Teacher Inservice on Friday the 24th.

Grammar:  The students will review vowel consonant patterns, identifying where capital letters should be in sentences, making compound words and several other skills as they complete Simple Solution Lessons 9 – 12.  There will be a quiz on Thursday.

Phonics: Students will take the Unit 1 test to show their understanding of concepts covered.  They will then begin the second unit to review the sounds of long and short vowels and the concept that consonants and vowels can be blended together to form words.

Shurley English:  The class will continue to label parts of speech in sentences as they review each parts job.

Math: This week we will work on different stratigies to subtract and compare 3 digit numbers. We will also learn how to combine place values to subtract and find the difference between numbers.

Science:  This week we will review concepts talked about in Chapter One and complete a study guide to review for a quiz.
