Week of January 7th-11th

First Grade had a WONDERFUL first week back! We came back from break rested, refreshed, and ready to take on new learning challenges. This week we read an information text titled, Going to School, which highlights schools around the world. We also started learning about place value as well as needs and wants in Social Studies.

Looking ahead to next week we will be learning…

This week spelling words follow the <wh> spelling pattern.

This week in reading we will be finishing Going to School, which talks about schools around the world. As a class we will use the informational text to help us practice with non fiction text features, we will also be discussing connecting between people and comparing and contrasting schools.

We will  learn about prepositions and identify the parts of speech in sentences.

In writing we will use Going to School  to write compare and contrast informative pieces.

We will be wrapping up ch. 6 which is about place value. Students will learn how to model, read, and write numbers up to 120. We will also continue practicing skip counting by 10’s starting at various places.

Social Studies

We are continuing to learn about the importance work has on the community, and how work allows us to purchase needs and wants. Students will be identifying needs, wants, goods, and services, as well as, using information to help form decisions.

This week we will look at the seven sacraments and identify their significance within our faith/ lives.
