ASPIRE testing Next Week!
ASPIRE TESTING: Next week students will be taking the Aspire tests. The Aspire tests will be in the morning. We will not be having any other tests this week.
Religion: We will finish chapter 10 “The Church Prays,” during the week and students will have the chapter test during the week of April 8-12. We will attend the Stations of the Cross on Thursday. Photos are of students acting out different situations that can occur during our religion class.
FMSC Service Field Trip: Permission forms went home this past Wednesday for our next field trip which is to the Feed My Starving Children Packing Facility in Aurora. This wonderful trip is on May 2nd. All parents are invited to attend as working chaperones to help us pack food for the hungry children of the world. Although there is no charge at the facility we asking for a donation to help FMSC. Forms are due back at school on 4/6/19.
Phonics: We are holding off on our last text unit. Instead we we’ll be working on more “I love literacy” papers that review some of the skills that we have learned and introduce some new ones within the context of interesting nonfiction topics.
Students should be reading their Biography book for our “Dress-Up” Book Report Presentation, which will be on the morning of Thursday, April 11th. Room 112 will present at 8:15 am and room 111 will present their reports at 9:15 am. Details about the biography book report went home on 3/13/19 and the biography “poster” was given to students on Friday, 3/22/19. The poster can be done in “chunks” as students read their books. Further research can be done on the selected person to help students prepare for their report.
Reading: In class we will continue to work on the skills of context clues, main idea and supporting details, summaries, and point of view.
Writing: We are continuing to work using graphic organizers to help with our story writing.
Grammar: Students continue to practice various grammar skills every day.
Math: Students will be learning how to relate whole numbers and fractions, finding part of a group using unit fractions and using problem solving strategies to find the whole group using unit fractions.
Science: We will be reviewing unit 3 and then students will have the unit test during the week of April 8-12. Students will also be participating in some learning activities with eggs as we begin our new science unit about incubation and embryology.
KLEENEX TISSUE: We are almost out of tissue due to the many colds we have experienced in our rooms. If you could spare a box we’d really appreciate it!
- Lunch/Recess Volunteers: 111 and 112 would love it if you could volunteer for recess & lunch supervision. Third grade has recess/lunch from 11:30 – 12:15. Please see the class page to sign up or click the link below:
