12/16/22 News From Fifth!

Hello 5th grade parents and families,

Merry (almost) Christmas!

Social Studies: Students have spent some time focusing on the history of Juan Diego. They continue to learn about explorers and relevant historical events.

Science: Our engineering unit is well underway, with students having learned about simple machines and the design process. Very soon, students should begin work on their own inventions! The “Intent to Invent” forms are due Monday, 12/19/22.

Grammar/Writing: Conjunctions have been added to our repertoire of parts of speech. In tandem with our poetry unit in reading, students have been writing their own poems using rhyme schemes, figurative language, and rhythm.

Reading: We continue our poetry unit, taking a close look at different types of poetry and analyzing poems.

Religion: Recently, we  have prepared for and put on a great Christmas program- way to go, Fifth Grade! We have also spent time learning about advent, and the specifics of each Sunday of Advent.

Math: The students did a great job of multiplying fractions, and should be proud of themselves! We are now dividing fractions, and will soon begin adding and subtracting fractions.

Have a great weekend- only a few more days to go until break!

It’s a great day to be a Cardinal!
