1/24: News from 5th

This week our Invention Convention was due! The students have been working so hard since the beginning of December researching, designing, modifying, and constructing their Inventions using simple machines and the design process. The creativity we have in our classroom is truly amazing! There were several inventions that I would buy today! I’m very PROUD of what they have achieved during this process.

Social Studies: We will finish up Chapter 6: Life in Colonial Times this week. We learned about what it would be like to live during the 1700’s. The students found school-life particularly interesting, as students during that time would be punished physically for misbehavior.

Science: The students are working on an Ecosystem Research Project. Everyone chose a type of ecosystem, and with research, they are putting together a brochure on that specific ecosystem. I can’t wait to see everyone’s brochures! Also, all students had the chance to Present/Demonstrate their Invention.

Reading: We are finishing up our unit on Poetry and will be continuing in our textbook. We will be reading a short story, The Road to Freedom, about a family of run-away slaves on a journey to the North.

Religion: The students are finishing the short novel about St. John Neumann. We will finish the novel with a quick review of his life and continue in the textbook until the Lenten season begins.

I hope you all have a wonderful & warm weekend! – Mrs. Witkowski
