8/26 News From Fifth

Welcome Back! Our first week of school has flown by, and we couldn’t be more excited to jump back in. Here are some things we have been working on, and some things to look forward to!

Social Studies: Mrs. Varchetta will begin the year reviewing the five themes of Geography: location, place, human-environment interaction, movement, and region.

Science: Our first Science unit lesson will be about how Scientists work, including learning through experiments and observations. Students will go on to learn about the Scientific Method, variables, evidence, and investigations.

Grammar: Our year begins with a review of parts of speech, and differentiating between parts of speech and the jobs that the words have in a sentence.

Reading: We are excited to begin our first novel, Night of the Spadefoot Toads. We will cover character analysis, metaphors, and other literary devices.

Religion: In Unit 1 of our We Believe series, we will begin to learn about the baptism of Jesus and the beginning of his mission. In this unit, students will learn that Jesus is the Son of God, Jesus shows us God’s love, Jesus invites people to follow him, and Jesus’ disciples continue his work.

Spelling: Our first spelling unit covers the long a and long e vowels. Students will read, spell, and write words with long a spelled ai, a-consonant-e, or ei; read, spell, and write words with long e spelled ee, e-consonant-e, or i-consonant-e. We are placing a strong emphasis on the meanings and usage of our spelling words, as well.

Have a great weekend!
