Math: Chapter 1 of GoMath is officially in the books. We are now diving into multiplication. We will be doing multiplication comparison problems and multiplying by tens, hundreds, and thousands, multiplying using the distributive property, and expanded form.

Reading: We have finished up our first bite-sized novel, Porpoises in Peril. We will be moving on to reading our next novel, Frindle. Frindle will be our base text, which we will use the G.A.T.E icons to help deepen our understanding. We will start of Frindle by focusing on elements of plot, setting, character traits, types of conflict and sequencing.

Spelling/Grammar/Writing: We are continuing to work on our parts of speech as well as the rules of capitalization and punctuation. In writing, we are finishing our personal narratives on small events.  We will be then begin fictional narratives with a spooky twist for Halloween 🙂 In spelling we are working on the long a sound through a, ai, and ay. Using our spelling list we will be focusing on sorting our words, using them in analogies, and word structure.

Science: Students will begin their unit on plants and animals.

Social Studies: We are wrapping up our letters to send off to the other 49 states. We are very excited about this project and if you as a parent would like to help us, donating Forever stamps would be greatly appreciated. Students have also been able to tap into their imagination and create postcards from an island of their own creation following the 5 themes as our final wrap up! Once we finish we will focus on reading maps and prepare to learn about the regions of the United States.

Religion/SEL: Month of October is the month of the Rosary we will be learning how to pray the rosary as well as the 4 types of mysteries. To conclude the month we will be making our own rosaries so that we can take them with us and pray them at home.  Our SEL lessons center around setting boundaries and problem solving.

Please be sure to revisit the dress code for 1-4th grade.

Thank you so much for your constant support and cooperation!
