01/13 Update

Greetings,

I hope that 2023 is off to a good start for all of you, and it’s been nice to have everyone back at school following Christmas break.  We’ve been given a new recess schedule if the weather prohibits us from being outside.  We may use the Parish Center on Wednesdays and Fridays.  If the temperature is above 32 degrees, we will be outside.  Please make sure your children have cold weather gear.  They are also expected to keep that cold weather gear on while we’re outside, even if they are running around and keeping warm.  In addition to that, a reminder that the correct uniform shoes an and sweatshirts need to be worn each and every day.  It appears that either Santa Claus, or our administration & maintenance staff left us a terrific gift for Christmas.  A new water bottle filling station/water fountain in our wing!  This will allow students to fill their water bottles more easily and quickly than before.  Students are encouraged to bring water bottles with them so that they do not have to spend an excessive amount of time outside of the classroom.  Learning best takes place in the classroom, not at the water fountain or the restroom.

All grade levels are in the process of covering Unit 11 in grammar.  It focuses on pronouns.  Open book tests for sixth and seventh grade will be taking place some time next week.  It will be a little later for eighth grade because they have also been working on an essay contest for the American Legion.  In Social Studies, eighth grade has reconvened with our study on the Civil War.  In honor of our MLK holiday on Monday, seventh and sixth grade are covering the Civil Rights movement

For Seventh Grade, our History Fair due date is approaching.  Students may submit their completed display boards from Monday January 23rd through Thursday January 26th.  They will be on display in the classroom for our Catholic Schools Week Open House on Sunday January 29th.  On Tuesday January 31st, projects will be judged after school by the St. Cletus faculty.  From there, we will choosing which students will be invited to represent our school at the city competition which will take place on Saturday March 4th and the UIC campus.

Graduation pictures will be taking place this upcoming Wednesday January 18th.  Please refer to the handout that went home regarding that.  Also, the remaining $99.00 payment for the Springfield trip is due February 24th.  I will see about sending a form home possibly next week.

Lastly, I encourage all families to register a fundraising page for the Spring Auction.  Registration requires no financial commitment at all.  It’s a simple way to contribute towards a great cause.
