09/01 Update

Greetings,

The first full week of the 2023/2024 school year passed by quickly, but it has not been void of sadness.  Our students have been part of an honor guard for two funerals this week as the St. Cletus community paid its respects towards two beloved members of the parish.  We also remember the life of Mrs. Reckwerdt whom we lost over summer break.

On a positive note, we have been off and running in class.  It feels like we never left last year.  I’ve been really pleased with the level of effort and participation from students so far.  In Language Arts, both 7th and 8th Grades have been working on vocabulary, and seventh grade wrote a compare and contrast essay.  In Literature, 8th grade read two short stories about troubled kids who receive guidance from caring adults.  This will lead into us reading our first novel, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.  7th graders have been reading some non-fiction work, and we will cover biographies beginning next week.  In Social Studies, both classes have been working on Google slide presentations  in coordination with researching European and Asian countries.

Thanks to those parents who are organizing the 8th Grade Mum Sale Fundraiser.  If you’ve never purchased mums through this sale, I encourage you to do so.  They’re an exceptional value for their high quality, and they last through autumn until it’s time to replace them with poinsettias.

Please see the information that went home about volunteering for Fall Fest and all of the other opportunities to contribute.  Also, be sure to be ready for alternate parking/pick-up procedures.

We also need more hot lunch volunteers and an FSA representative for 8th Grade.  Please consider helping.
