News from Fifth 9/18

Hello 5th Grade Families!

We have finished our iReady Diagnostic testing for Fall, and will be working every week on our iReady Lessons. Each student will need to complete 45 minutes and have 2 lessons passed in both Reading and Math. This is required through the Archdiocese of Chicago, and students will be given points for completing their iReady each week.

Language Arts/Writing: We have reviewed the 4 types of sentences, and we are starting to classify sentences. We continue to write every morning during our ‘Do Now.’ Students write about the holiday of the day (today was International Peace Day).

Science: We are continuing to learn about how scientists perform investigations, the models and skills the use, and the scientific process.

Reading: We finished 2/3 of our novel, “Night of the Spadefoot Toads.” We will finish the book in the next week and take our last test over Chapter 16-18.

Math: We will be finishing up Chapter 1 with multiplying and dividing 2-digit numbers. Also, we will be working with the order of operations.

Social Studies: The class will start discussing the start of North America and studying the native people of the nation.

Religion: We started looking into the Gospels and comparing the synoptic books (Matthew, Mark, and Luke). We will continue to study and compare the works along with John.

Have a great week! – Mrs. Witkowski
