Looking Ahead:
- Sign-up for summer camps! The early childhood summer camp sign-up is DUE! It is being run by Mrs. Zontos and Mrs. Sonia Sanchez (Sofia’s mom). They’re really excited for the camp and think the kids will have a blast with their school friends! Get that registration in–> Summer Camp
- KINDERGARTEN CELEBRATION: You should have received the official invitation earlier this week! The celebration will be on Wednesday, June 5, 10am. The celebration will be about 1 hour. Students should dress nicely for the program, but keep in mind they will be sitting criss-cross or on the risers. After the song performance, treats will be enjoyed and then students are dismissed to you for the summer immediately after! This is the last day of school for KINDERGARTEN.
This Week: We started the iready reading and math FINAL diagnostic. Again, students take the diagnostic three times a year–fall, winter and spring. The results will be in your child’s report card envelope at the end of the school year. This is just one piece of information that shows your child’s progress. Keep in mind, report cards are based off my own assessments which I conduct 1 on 1 with each child and are usually more accurate (vs the computer iReady assessment, especially with the little ones!).
We released the butterflies on Monday! We gathered in a circle outside and set them free. We then enjoyed an ice cream treat (this was the treat given to us by Mr. Porod and Mrs. Schaefer for the St. Cletus feast day–we finally had a chance to enjoy!) and watched them explore!
The Thursday picnic with our buddies was a blast! The weather was great and the kids enjoyed good food, good conversation and lots of fun play time!
What a week! We’re packing it all in during these final weeks!
Math: We will be finishing up Chapter 10, 3D shapes next week before moving on to our final chapter, chapter 11: measurement.
Review:
- Counting by 1s to 100. Practice at home!
- Counting by 2s to 20. Practice at home!
- Counting by 5s to 100. Practice at home!
- Counting by 10s to 100. Practice at home!
- Addition AND subtraction using dice, dominoes, whiteboards, manipulatives, magnetic numbers and more! Our goal is to FLUENTLY (automatically) add and subtract within 5 and be able to use drawings, fingers, etc. to add within 10.
- Recognizing numbers 1-100.
- Breaking numbers 1-100 down into “tens” and “ones”
- 2D shapes: Naming square, circle, triangle, rhombus, rectangle, oval, hexagon; naming sides and vertices
- 3D shapes: Naming cube, cylinder, sphere and cone: how many faces on each and knowing whether they roll, stack or slide.
- Money: penny, nickel, dime and quarter. Naming the value of each and some of the symbols on each coin. We will continue to work with money next week, including counting groups of coins!
Language Arts:
Superkids: We continue to read the decodable Superkids text and also work on fluency packets. Be sure to practice these at home and keep in a safe place to practice in the future.
Word wall words: Review all April/May words.
Journaling: Daily journaling continues. These journals will be returned to you at the end of the year!
Religion and Science
- We have a MAY ALTAR in our classroom for Mary. We are praying the HAIL MARY daily. If your child wants to bring in any flowers for the altar to honor Mary, that would be GREAT.
- We will continue with our SECOND STEP, modeling and discussing feelings and what to do when certain feelings arise.
