Ms. Skinner’s Fifth Grade News

Hello all and welcome to another recap of the last two weeks in the classroom! Before we get started, I want to remind everyone that Parent-Teacher Conferences are this upcoming Tuesday, November 25th. If you have not signed up, please do so. If you have any questions, please email me!

Upcoming Events:

November 25 – 11:30am dismissal. Conference are from 12:30-8pm. No aftercare.

November 26-28 – Thanksgiving Break!

Now, what’s happening in Ms. Skinner’s class? I’m glad you asked!

ELA: The class completed their 100 Vocabulary Word Test on Wednesday! The average score was 87%, which is incredible. I am so proud of this group for their hard work. We also worked on a Thanksgiving acrostic poem. We have started creating a fiction story, and the stories I’ve seen so far are so exciting and creative.

Science: We will wrap up our lesson on Chemical vs Physical Changes today with a quiz. We had fun with the labs for this lesson, making a small “elephant’s toothpaste” and writing messages with baking soda and blackberries. After Thanksgiving break, we will start a new lesson on the Food Web!

Math: We’re still in division, but now we are estimating with division! I still hold regular lunchtime extra math sessions and I am so proud of those who do seek out the extra practice.

Reading: We are almost finished with The Witch of Blackbird Pond! After Thanksgiving break, I will have the students complete a small group project to assess their knowledge of the book. After Thanksgiving break, we will start another novel study!

Religion: We will continue our deep dive into Baptism, and our next lesson will cover the symbolic meanings in the sacrament.
