Religion – 1st Trimester Summary

6th Grade

Chapter 1: God’s Revelation
  • People can know God by looking at the world he created. God reveals himself through creation, Scripture, and Tradition. The Bible tells God’s story and guides our faith.

  • God communicates with people over time, inviting them into a loving relationship with him.

Chapter 2: God’s Work of Creation
  • God created the universe and everything in it. Humans are made in God’s image and likeness, with body and soul. We are called to care for creation and respect human life.

  • Creation reflects God’s wisdom and goodness, showing that the world is ordered and purposeful.

Chapter 3: The First People Turn from God
  • Sin entered the world through human choices, breaking the original harmony with God, self, and creation. This is known as Original Sin, and it affects all people.

  • Despite humanity turning away, God continues to care for people and begins a plan for their redemption.

Chapter 4: God Promises to Save His People
  • God promises redemption even after human sin. The covenant with Noah is the first sign of God’s faithfulness and plan to save humanity.

  • God’s promises show that he is faithful and will guide people toward salvation and a restored relationship with him.

Chapter 5: The Patriarchs
  • God calls Abraham to be the father of a people and promises that his descendants will become a great nation. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are the ancestors of Israel, showing faith and trust in God.

  • God’s covenant with the patriarchs establishes a chosen people who will carry out his plan for the world.

Chapter 6: An Enslaved People
  • Abraham’s descendants, the Israelites, became enslaved in Egypt. Life was hard, and they suffered under oppression.

  • God remembers his people and prepares to act to free them, showing that he is always faithful to his promises.

Chapter 7: A Free People
  • God calls Moses to lead the Israelites out of slavery. Through the Exodus, God rescues his people and gives them a covenant, making them his chosen people.

  • God gives the Israelites laws and guidance to help them live as his people and remain faithful to him.

 


7th Grade

Chapter 1: The Source of All Life
  • God is the Creator — the source of all life. Humans and the universe come from God.

  • Being made by God gives human life dignity, and God’s power, love, and goodness are evident in creation.

Chapter 2: The Truth Revealed
  • We know God and His plan through Revelation — God reveals Himself through Scripture (the Bible) and Sacred Tradition.

  • The truths of faith are handed down through the Church, and believers are invited to learn, believe, and live according to what God has revealed.

Chapter 3: Blessed Trinity
  • The doctrine of the Holy Trinity teaches there is one God in three Persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

  • Each Person is distinct yet shares the same divine nature. The Trinity reveals God’s love and invites us to share in it.

Chapter 4: God, Our Loving Father
  • God the Father is Creator, sustainer, and loving parent.

  • God’s love is the origin of our dignity, worth, and purpose, and we are invited into a personal relationship with Him.

Chapter 5: Jesus Christ, the Good News
  • Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to reveal God to us and to save us.

  • His life, teachings, death, and resurrection are central to God’s plan for salvation.

Chapter 6: Holy Spirit — Helper and Guide
  • The Holy Spirit guides believers, inspires faith, helps understand Scripture and Tradition, and works in our lives to grow in holiness.

  • The Spirit is the “giver of life” and continues God’s plan of salvation through the Church and individuals.

Chapter 7: Promise of Salvation
  • Humanity needs salvation because of sin, and God promised to save us.

  • Salvation includes being freed from sin and living in right relationship with God. The promise is personal and communal.

Chapter 8: Jesus the Promised Messiah
  • Jesus fulfills Old Testament prophecies as the promised Messiah.

  • He brings God’s Kingdom, salvific love, and the new covenant, fulfilling God’s promise of salvation.

Chapter 9: Coming of God’s Kingdom
  • God’s Kingdom begins now through Jesus and will be fully realized in the future.

  • Living in God’s Kingdom involves following Gospel values, loving God and neighbor, and living as part of God’s people.

Chapter 10: Jesus the Healer
  • Jesus heals not only physical illnesses but also restores our relationship with God.

  • His healing ministry demonstrates God’s compassion, mercy, and the promise of salvation and new life.

 


8th Grade

Chapter 1: We Respond to God’s Love
  • God calls each person to a relationship with Him.

  • Responding to God’s love involves faith, prayer, and living according to His teachings.

  • Love of God and neighbor is central to Catholic life.

Chapter 2: We Make Moral Choices
  • God gives humans free will to choose between good and evil.

  • Moral decisions affect our relationship with God, self, and others.

  • Conscience helps us discern right from wrong.

Chapter 3: We Follow God’s Law
  • God’s law guides moral choices and helps us live as God wants.

  • The Ten Commandments are a foundation of moral living.

  • Living God’s law means loving God and loving others.

Chapter 4: We Love God and Others
  • Loving God means putting Him first in life.

  • Loving others includes forgiveness, respect, and service.

  • Jesus’ example teaches us how to love fully.

Chapter 5: We Honor Life and Creation
  • Human life is sacred from conception to natural death.

  • Stewardship of creation is a moral responsibility.

  • Caring for the environment and all living beings reflects God’s love.

Chapter 6: We Respect All People
  • Every person has dignity and deserves respect.

  • Catholic teaching encourages justice, compassion, and protecting human rights.

  • We live out respect through actions, words, and attitudes.

Chapter 7: The Early Church
  • After Jesus’ Resurrection, the Apostles spread His message.

  • Early Christians faced persecution but grew in faith.

  • The Church began as a community of believers guided by the Holy Spirit.

Chapter 8: Christians of the Roman Empire
  • Christianity spread despite Roman opposition.

  • Martyrs inspired others by their faith.

  • Constantine legalized Christianity, helping the Church grow.

Chapter 9: Christians of the Early Middle Ages
  • Monastic communities preserved faith, learning, and culture.

  • Missionaries spread Christianity across Europe.

  • The Church became a central part of daily life and government.

Chapter 10: Christians of the High Middle Ages
  • The Church strengthened its structure and influence.

  • Universities and cathedrals reflected Catholic learning and faith.

  • Reform movements aimed to address corruption and strengthen faith practice.
