6th Grade News- 2/2/26

Good afternoon 6th grade families!

What a GREAT Catholic Schools Week we had last week!  It was so nice seeing so many of your faces again.

Students are going to start having to read 20 minutes each night.  It really helps build strong readers. I am working on a way that they can log their reading.

Our Six Seven Surge fundraiser is going strong!. Raise $67 by March 2 for a chance to win prizes.

Math- We have started working on our ratios and rates.  The students have been working hard on comparing a variety of things.  We have started on unit rate.  We have a fun activity coming up this week, finding the best “deals” at the grocery store.

ELA- We are continuing to work on different grammar skills in writing, we are currently working on all the different types of subjects and predicates. We have been working hard on our vocabulary words, we are moving on to root/ affix words and some spelling words!  You can tell the students are really trying their best this trimester with vocab. The students are also required to write a journal every morning. They have a specific time allotted for journal and will be graded on their work at the end of the trimester, I suggest asking your students to go through and check their journals

6th Literature- We have started a novel titled “Sammy Key’s and the Sisters of Mercy”. We are super excited to start this mystery book. Mystery books are always so fun and keep the students entertained!

7th Literature-  We are reading “Swallowing Stones”.  The students are interested in seeing what happens in this book and seeing all the different point of views in this book.  It is a drama story with some suspenseful/ mysterious elements.  We are intrigued to find out what happens.

8th Literature-  We are reading “And Then There Were None” in 8th grade. This book is intriguing! We are going to look at all the ways the author shows suspense!  This is also a mystery book that the kids really enjoy.  We are meeting plenty of new characters and will be keeping track of their personalities, what they are doing, and seeing if they are possibly involved in our mystery!

Junior High Class Model:

Along with various specials teachers, students will be switching for Social Studies (Mrs. Van Wyck), Science (Ms. Fogle) and Religion (Mr. Ochoa) throughout the week.  This gives students a feel for switching courses and having many different teachers and teacher expectations as they prepare for high school.
