6th Grade News- 3/2/26

Good afternoon 6th grade families!

This week 6th grade will be leading Mass on Tuesday AND 6th grade will be reading for Stations of the Cross on Friday at 2:30pm.

Stations of the Cross are every Friday at 2:30pm.

We have been having some issues with students not charging their chromebooks at home.  Please remind your students to plug in their chromebooks everyday.  They need their chromebooks fully charged for a lot of their classes.

Math- We are finishing up our unit on Rates and Ratios.  The students will have a test on Friday March 6th. Next up, we are going to continue working with rates, but we will be adding a variety of graphs and measurements to the mix

ELA- We are continuing to work on different grammar skills in writing, we are currently working on all the different types of subjects and predicates. We have been working hard on our vocabulary words, we are moving on to root/ affix words and some spelling words!  You can tell the students are really trying their best this trimester with vocab. The students are also required to write a journal every morning. They have a specific time allotted for journal and will be graded on their work at the end of the trimester, I suggest asking your students to go through and check their journals

6th Literature- We have started a novel titled “Chasing Vermeer”. We had to stop reading our other book due to unforeseen circumstances but we are super excited to start this new mystery book. This specific mystery book is set in Chicago and it has some really great illustrations that we will be examining as well. Students have also been given a reading log to complete at home. This should be a book of their choosing, that they read for at least 20 mins each night.

7th Literature-  We are continuing to read “Swallowing Stones”.  The students have really examined how one moment and one action can have a huge impact on someone’s life.  We are still examining the point of views from the different narrators.  The students have made it very clear, they like one narrator better than the other.

8th Literature-  We are reading “And Then There Were None” in 8th grade. This book is intriguing! We are half way done with this book, and students have many theories about what is going on!  They have really taken to finding out why everyone on the island is dying.

Junior High Class Model:

Along with various specials teachers, students will be switching for Social Studies (Mrs. Van Wyck), Science (Ms. Fogle) and Religion (Mr. Ochoa) throughout the week.  This gives students a feel for switching courses and having many different teachers and teacher expectations as they prepare for high school.
