Math- We are starting our new unit on Monday!! Students will be learning one- step equations, starting with exponents. We are hoping to be done with this unit right before spring break! This is a fun unit! Students really enjoy trying to solve these equations.
ELA- We have been continuing working on our vocabulary words. Currently students are working on comic using all 10 vocab words. They are coming along great and I’m so excited to hang them in the hallway! You can tell the students are really trying their best this trimester with vocab. The students are also required to write a journal every morning. They have a specific time allotted for journal and will be graded on their work at the end of the trimester, I suggest asking your students to go through and check their journals
6th Literature- We are still reading “Chasing Vermeer”. We are really getting into who stole the Vermeer painting. Students have also been given a reading log to complete at home. This should be a book of their choosing, that they read for at least 20 mins each night.
7th Literature- We have started our new novel “Holes”. We are reading this book for our next battle of the books activity. We will be taking note on setting and the different characteristics of all the different characters at Camp Green Lake.
8th Literature- We have started our next Battle of the Books novel “Animal Farm”. We are diving into allegories, and really trying to make connections between the book and the real life events that the book is based on.
Junior High Class Model:
Along with various specials teachers, students will be switching for Social Studies (Mrs. Van Wyck), Science (Ms. Fogle) and Religion (Mr. Ochoa) throughout the week. This gives students a feel for switching courses and having many different teachers and teacher expectations as they prepare for high school.
