Happy Friday to all! While the countdown to Summer has begun, we still have lots of learning to do! Before we get into what we’ve studied and what is to come, let’s take a look at some important dates.
Monday, May 18th – Please send your child to school in their PE uniform. We will have a special visit from some members of the Chicago Hounds!
Tuesday, May 19th – Dining for Dollars at the Wendy’s in Countryside, 4-8pm
Friday, May 22nd – 2pm dismissal, no aftercare!
Monday, May 25th – Memorial Day! No school.
Alright, what’s the latest? I’m glad you asked!
ELA: We will have TWO more spelling tests! Keep it up! Our last writing project of the year will be creating our own legends, which will use real life figures in fictional situations. We will start the first draft next week.
Science: We have a short lesson on the Sun and other stars in our galaxy and beyond. Next week, we will make a planisphere so your child can see what stars are visible at night. If you are able, please go outside with your child and try to find the Big Dipper! See if you can identify other stars as well. Our last science lesson will be on how to save energy, especially around the house.
Math: We have rounded up rounding decimals. We will spend the next couple of weeks reviewing all that we have learned and take baby steps into multiplying and dividing decimals. Both classes just finished up a short project where we went “grocery shopping.” The students had a blast going shopping and then adjusting their lists according to a budget. We have some savvy shoppers in the classes, as well as some big spenders!
Religion: Since Pentecost is around the corner, we had a short lesson on what it means. We covered the gifts of the Holy Spirit as well. We are continuing Growing with God and having wonderful conversations about making safe choices in real life and online. Please take some time to review you and your child’s privacy settings on all devices, as well as permissions in apps.
Reading: We have started my favorite book of the year, Holes! We are just buzzing right through it; some could say we really dig it (sorry). Since we are starting this late in the year, we do have to read 2 chapters over the weekend. Luckily, the chapters are short and very entertaining so this shouldn’t feel like too much.
Just a quick reminder that I have sent out extra credit opportunities to all parents and I have also posted on Google Classroom. Everything is due on May 25th and no late work will be accepted! This is so I can get grades in on time. Thank you for understanding. Have a wonderful weekend!
