Tale of the Third Grade EVERYTHING

 Hello Third Grade Families,

Charlie Esposito was the PBIS winner Friday May 19th.  This week’s winner was Ava Van Wyck!!

Monday, May 29th:  NO SCHOOL ~~  Enjoy the Three Day Weekend!!

Tuesday, May 30th:   Children should bring their recorders and music to school today and EVERY Tuesday.  We will attend 8:00 am Mass.  “F ~ Fun Cardinals

Wednesday May 31st:    “E ~ Exercising!!  FINAL PBIS ASSEMBLY!! 

Thursday, June 1st:   “D ~ Doodle Day 

Friday, June 2nd:  “C” Crazy Sock Day.

Religion:  The students will read about the ways the Church celebrates the Sacrament of Penance. 

Math:   The students will learn how to plot data on a line plot as they finish their chapter on graphs and data.  We will take the chapter test on Wednesday.  The class will be finishing the Simple Solutions book this week.

Social Studies:  The class will be learning about the history of the flag and importance of Memorial Day in our country.    

Reading:  The students will use the close reading strategy to ask and answer questions centered around  “Brave Girl” by Michelle Markel.      

Phonics:  During the week the students will be working with base words that have had prefixes, suffixes and or endings add to them.    Some of the prefixes that we will work with are:  re- (do again),  pre- (done before), un- (not), mis- (not), dis- (not), im- (not), in- (not).  Suffixes and or endings we will be reviewing are: -ly, -able, -ness, -ing, and -ed.   

Spelling:  Using the spelling words the students will continue learning when to add -er or -est to a base word in order to help them compare two or more things.  They will learn that when you compare two things you add -er to the end of a word.  They will also learn when comparing three of more things you add -est to the end of the word

My name is Lisa Gearen. I started teaching at St. Cletus in 2003. I taught first grade for 14 years and now teach 3rd. I have a bachelors degree in Communication and a Masters in Elementary Education. I received both degrees from Concordia University.
