Tales From Third Grade 114

Hello Everyone!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend!

Dates to remember this week

Monday October 2nd:  Students will be presenting their Reports on the scientist of their choice.

Tuesday October 3rd:  Dining for Dollars at the Country Side Chipotle on La Grange Rd ~ from 4 to 8.

Thursday October 5th:  Picture Day!  Students should come dress nicely and be ready to smile.

Monday October 9th:  No School

The students did an AMAZING job memorizing and presenting their September Poems.  The costumes and props were so clever!!  I can’t wait to see what they do with the poems for October.  The choices will be sent home this week.

The directions for the October Book reports will also be sent home by the end of the week.  I told the students that they should choose a mystery book to read.  The book should be a chapter book NOT a graphic novel.   Some series suggestions to consider when looking at books are Boxcar Children, Magic Treehouse, Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, Horrible Harry and Cam Jansen”

Here’s what we will be doing this week in class:

Religion: The class will be talking about that fact that Jesus tells us how much God loves us.  The student will be learning about the Kingdom of GOD. The students will brain storm ways we can return God’s love and follow Jesus in given situations

Reading:  The class will continue working with the story “Thunder Cakes” as they define words in the story that they are not familiar with using dictionaries.  The students will work with a partner to make a list of the characters in the story as well as the contribution they made in the story.  The students will take a short quiz about the story at the end of the week.

Phonics:  During the week the students will be reviewing all of the short vowel sounds.

Spelling:  This week’s words contain the abstract vowel pairs ew and oo.

Math:  The class will work with equal groups, relating addition to multiplication, and use yardsticks to learn their multiplication facts.  Please use the flashcards from the supply kits to practice multiplication facts at home.  The students should work on Simple Solution Lessons 21 – 24.

Social Studies:  This week we will start a unit about communities and the diversity within them.
