Tales of Everything Happening in Third Grade Room 114: March 18th to 22nd

Hello Third Grade Families:

Thank you for taking the time to come in for Parent Teacher conferences.

Our classroom is in need of Baby Wipes, Paper Towels and Kleenex.  Any contributions are appreciated.

AUCTION ITEM SNOW ANGEL PICTURE:    Thank you to the parents that were able to take a picture of your child making a snow angel and shared it with me.  If you did not get a chance to take the picture not to worry please take a picture of your child wearing their snow gear standing with a sled or holding a shovel as if they are going out to play.

March poems:    The poems will be performed on Friday March 22nd.  I look forward to seeing the creativity the students will use as they perform their chosen poems.  Please encourage your child to add gestures, simple props and costumes to their presentations.

Religion     The class will begin a chapter about being part of a Church family and what it means in our faith.  We will complete our series “Growing With God” Wednesday, March 20th.  This series will conclude with these two topics My Sacred Self and Trust and Secrets.  Please join us for Stations of the Cross at 2:30 on Friday afternoons, it is a wonderful way to end the week.  If you are attending Stations of the Cross on Thursday please let me know if you would like your child to bring their things with them to Church so that you can leave right after Stations.

Reading:  This week the class will be shooting to complete a PBIS March Madness School WIde goal of  passing two or more lessons with a 75% or higher score.  We will also be reading Easter Bunny stories and talking about how these stories begin.  We will then talk about the adventures or problems that the Easter Bunny gets into in the middle of the story.   FInally we will look at how the Bunny solves the problem at the end.  The students will then write their own Easter Bunny adventures.

Spelling:  Our words this week contain the r-controlled vowel sound of /ar/.  The students will learn that this sound is spelled in the following ways:    air, ear, are, ere and eir.

Phonics: The class will continue working on Unit 5 this week as they learn about vowel digraphs and dipthongs.  Vowel Digraphs happen when two vowels come together to create one sound.  Vowel Dipthongs are usually vowel sounds formed by a combination of two vowel sounds.  .

Math:   The class has started working with division.  The students have learned that the bigger number in a division problem is the DIVIDEND,  the smaller number in the problem is the DIVISOR and the answer is the QUOTIENT.

Dates to remember for the week:

Tuesday March 19th:  Mass at 8:00 am.

Friday March 8th:  Stations of the Cross at 2:30.  March Poems will be presented today.
