Tales of Everything Happening in Third Grade Room 114: March 4th to 8th

Hello Third Grade Families:

Parent / Teacher Conferences are Thursday March 14th.  Please let me know if you would like to meet earlier.   

AUCTION ITEM SNOW ANGEL PICTURE:    Thank you to the parents that were able to take a picture of your child making a snow angel and shared it with me.  If you did not get a chance to take the picture not to worry please take a picture of your child wearing their snow gear standing with a sled or holding a shovel as if they are going out to play.  

Thank you Mrs. Murray and Mrs. Birrueta for coming along on our field trip to the Adler Planetarium.

March prayer and poems:  Copies of the prayer and poems will be sent home on Monday March 4th.  The March Prayer will be recited on Wednesday March 13th.  The poems will be performed on Thursday March 21st.  I look forward to seeing the creativity the students will use as they perform their chosen poems.  Please encourage your child to add gestures, simple props and costumes to their presentations.

Religion     The class will begin a chapter about being part of a Church family and what it means in our faith.  We will begin our series “Growing With God” Monday February 26th.  The series will be during our Religion classes on the following dates in February and March:  3.4, 3/6, 3/11/ 3/ 13, 3/18 and end on 3/20.  This series will have our class talking about the following topics:  God Creates Us, Boundaries, Friendship and Bullying, Safety Awareness, Digital Discipleship, My Sacred Self and Trust and Secrets.  The Growing with God Series will be held.  Please join us for these as well it is a wonderful way to end the week.  If you are attending Stations of the Cross on Thursday please let me know if you would like your child to bring their things with them to Church so that you can leave right after Stations.

Reading:  This week the class will be reading the story “The Moon Seems to Change.”  As we are reading the story the students will talk about the different stages of the moon.  The class will define unfamiliar words and answer questions as they use the close reading strategy.

Spelling:  The class will continue working with the spelling words from last week.  The students will have spelling work posted in Google Classroom as well as a hard copy in their packet just incase they do not have access to google.  

Phonics: The class will begin Unit 5 this week  

Math:   The class will complete working on Chapter 5 this week.  Chapter Five had the class Identifying and describing number patterns
shown in a function table,  solving multiplication problems by using the strategy draw a diagram and using an array or a multiplication table to find an unknown factor.  The students have strengthened their multiplication skills, they have also learned the meanings of these vocabulary words:   pattern, equation, array, Commutative Property of Multiplication, factor, product and Distributive Property.  

Science:  Our field trip to the adler Planetarium was a great introduction to our new science unit about the moon and earth.  This week the class will learn more about the different phases of the Moon.

Tuesday March 5th:  Mass at 8:00 am.  School Reconciliation 

Wednesday March 6th:  PBIS Assembly

 Friday March 8th:  Stations of the Cross at 2:30.  Adult BINGO at 6:30

My name is Lisa Gearen. I started teaching at St. Cletus in 2003. I taught first grade for 14 years and now teach 3rd. I have a bachelors degree in Communication and a Masters in Elementary Education. I received both degrees from Concordia University.
