Tales of Everything Third Grade ~ January 15th to 19th

Hello Everyone

This week ALL students participated in a ROCK – PAPER – SCISSORS game in the classroom.  Our class winner was Felicity Esposito.  Felicity went on to play a school wide ROCK – PAPER – SCISSORS game and did a GREAT job!!  Congratulations Felicity!!

I hope you all enjoyed the unexpected snow day!  Please be sure to take a picture of your child making a snow angel if you have not already done so.  These pictures will be made into a class item for the spring auction.  Please send the pictures to me at lgearen@stcletusparish.com as soon as you can.  Thank you to those who have already taken the snow angel pictures. I appreciate it.

Don’t forget

Re-enrollment has started for the 24 – 25 school year.  The re-enrollment forms can be found on the St. Cletus School website.

Build your page for the Laps For Laugh challenge.  If we get ALL FAMILIES to build a page by February 1, there will be an all school surprise!!  Let’s do this!   The information flyer went home in the Wednesday Envelope last week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Religion:  January prayers will be recited on Monday January 22nd.  We continue learning about the Epiphany and the Maji during class this week. Please join us at Mass on Tuesdays at 8:00 am if your schedule allows.  Your child is welcome to sit with you during the Mass but before they leave the line to join you please remind them to tell me.  Also remember to send them back to me after Mass for the school day.

Reading:  The students continue working on comprehension skills as they read and answer questions about passages from iReady.  This week the students will learn transitional words / phrases that are used for sequential order.  We will also look at the events from the  beginning,  middle and end of stories.

Phonics:  The students have been learning about contractions and the two words that form them.  They have also been taking a singular word and making it plural by adding s or es to words.  This week the students will learn that when a word that ends in either f or fe becomes plural they will change the -f or fe to a v and add es (ex: half becomes halves and life becomes lives)

Spelling:  Due to the snow day we will continue working with the words from last week and take the spelling tests on January 19th.  I will send the words home again on Tuesday to be sure the students are able to study the correct list.

Math:  Students should complete Simple Lessons 69 – 72 by Friday January 19th.We started a chapter on Geometry when we returned from Winter Break.  The chapter started out with end point, line segments, rays, right angles (less than a right (side slants into the shape making it narrower) than a right angle and greater (side slants away from the shape making it wider) than a right angle, and points.  This week the class will work with intersecting, perpendicular, and parallel lines.

Science:  Changes in Technology Projects Poster (22 x 28) are due January 25th.  Posters will be on display for Catholic Schools open house on Sunday January 28th.  Students will begin presenting on Monday, January 29th.  Please let me know if you have any questions or need any supplies sent home.  Be sure that pictures for the posters are glued rather than taped.  Be sure that your child can read the information about their technology items.
