Hello Third Grade Families,

Tuesday, March 7th  8:00 am Mass.  Children should bring their recorders and music to school today and EVERY Tuesday

Thursday, March 9th:  11:00 Stations of the Cross.  Early dismissal at 11:30 and NO AFTERCARE  Be sure to send a healthy snack.  Parent / Teacher conferences today from 12:30 to 8:00.  Students will be taking the weekly quizzes today.  

Friday, March 3rd:   No school today.  Enjoy the long weekend.

Religion:   We will continue to learn about the ways in which the church celebrates the Christian initiation sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist.  We will also learn about the healing Sacraments of healing Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick.     Our class will present the Stations on March 23rd.  Station assignments will be given out soon.  Stations DO NOT need to be memorized.

Social Studies:  We will continue learning about the many different Presidents this country has had.  The students have done an amazing job on these projects.  

Math:  This week the students will learn how to solve division problems by using these strategies: use a Bar Model, and relate Subtraction and Division  Simple Solution Lessons 93 – 96 should be completed by Thursday March 9th.  

Spelling:   Spelling words for the week went home on friday March 3rd.  Spelling tests will be taken on Thursday.

Phonics:   This week the students will learn when to double a final consonant or drop the “e” before adding a suffix or ending.  

Reading:   The class will finish reading the story “Athabascans”.  As they read this story the students will hear about how people in this rural Alaska live.  This week students will work with a partner to reread sections of the “Athabascans” and answer specific questions with text from the story.

My name is Lisa Gearen. I started teaching at St. Cletus in 2003. I taught first grade for 14 years and now teach 3rd. I have a bachelors degree in Communication and a Masters in Elementary Education. I received both degrees from Concordia University. I also have an associates degree in Early Childhood Education as well as being a Certified Catechist.
