Tales of Third Grade Everything

Hello Everyone,

I hope you are enjoying the Thanksgiving break.

Please remember that the poster for KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS is due back on Monday, November 27th.  Please remember that this poster is part of a Religion grade and should be turned in on time.  If you and your child are interested in entering the contest remember to fill out the entry form and return to school on the 27th as well.

Also due back to school on Monday November 27th is the title of the Christmas themed book for the December book report.  Book report projects are due on December 18th.  The students will have time in class on Friday’s to read their chosen books by a fireplace (shown on the SMARTBOARD) as they listen to Christmas music.

Next Monday, December 4th the Third Grade class will be attending the performance of “The Nutcracker” at Dominican University.  I will let the chaperones know who they are as well as arrival times on Monday, November 27th when we return to school.  I apologize for the late notice and if you volunteered but your schedule has changed please let me know.  Thank you for wanting to help.

This week in class we will be learning about:

Religion:  The students will learn about the Acts of the Apostles and how they led the Church.  We will also talk about the followers of Jesus Christ who were filled with the Holy Spirit.

Reading:  The class will read two short stories and identify the main characters and words that describe their feelings throughout the story.  The class will talk about how the actions and emotions of the main characters affect the feeling of the story.

Phonics:  This week students will learn what a consonant digraph.

Spelling:  Our words this week contain the long o sound.

Math:  SW learn to use the Associative Property of Multiplication as they work through given problems.  The class will solve simple multiplication problems and look for patterns in the products using a multiplication table.
