Tales of Third Grade Everything

Hello Everyone:

Hope you are enjoying the weekend.

Dates to remember this week:

Monday, October 16th:  October prayer will be recited.  

 During the week the students will be:

Religion:  The class will learn that the Bible is made up of two books.  The Old and New Testaments. The Old Testament is filled with stories about the time before Christ’s birth.  The New Testament is filled with writings about Christ’s life and work in the world.    

Reading:  Our new story is called“Lemonade Wars” Lemonade Wars is a story about a boy who is trying to sell more lemonade than his older sister.  As he is trying to find the perfect location, he encounters some problems.  The students will read the story and identify the problems and solutions.  The students will also use the dictionary to learn the meaning of these words: Location, overtime, earned competition

Phonics: This week the class will be reviewing the sounds of  long E, and O vowels in words.   

Spelling:  This week our words will have the Vowel Consonant -e pattern.   

Math:  We will continue learning strategies to solve multiplication problems.  This week the class will work with ARRAYS and FACT FAMILIES to help solve multiplication problems.  Please continue to work with your child to memorize multiplication facts from 1 – 5 

Social Studies:  We will be working with identifying the five different place we live in on this planet.  Please be sure that your child is aware of the town they live in.

My name is Lisa Gearen. I started teaching at St. Cletus in 2003. I taught first grade for 14 years and now teach 3rd. I have a bachelors degree in Communication and a Masters in Elementary Education. I received both degrees from Concordia University.
