Third Grade News and Up Coming Event

Religion:  This week, we will be attending 8:00 am Mass on Tuesday.  We will be going to Stations of the Cross on Thursday at 11:00.  On Monday we will be talking about the fact that people have many things in common as well as having many differences as we work with get back to the Second Steps Curriculum.  Wednesday the class go to reconciliation and will talk about the difference between being a friend and being a bully in our Growing With God series.

Reading: The students will finish reading the historic fiction novel “The Year of Miss Agnes.”

Spelling:  Due to the shortened week we will not have a spelling test.  Next week our words will be centered around St. Patrick’s Day.  The words will be Saint, Spring, Irish, Patrick, Coin, Pot, footprint, orange, gold, green, white, leprechaun, rainbow, lucky, clover, shamrock, and trap.  The students will be working one these words this week but will not be tested on them until the 18th of March.

Phonics: Matching words with the suffixes -ion, -ment.  The students will practice reading and write words with the suffixes – ion, -ment, -able, -en and -ible.

Math: The class will learn to use arrays and bar models to solves division problems. They will see how bar models and arrays are related to multiplication and division as inverse operation

Social Studies:  During the week the students will learn what an ancestor is and the influences they had on our world. The students will read about places immigrants came from and how they survived when they first came to America.  The class will learn about immigrant artist Emanual Gottlieb Leutze.

Tuesday March 8th:  Attending 8:00am Mass.  Please be on time so that we can be in Church before Mass begins.

Wednesday March 9th:  Reconciliation

Thursday March 10th:  The students will be attending Stations of the Cross at 11:00.  Please join us if your schedule allows.  11:30 Dismissal and Parent Teacher Conferences start 1:00. NO AFTERCARE!  Please be sure to sign up for a conference.  Please also be sure to come to school at your chosen time.

Friday March 11th:  NO SCHOOL  Have a GREAT three day weekend.

I have a bachelors degree in Communication and a Masters in Elementary Education. I received both degrees from Concordia University.
