Third Grade News and Up Coming Events

Third Grade Prayer Service is Tuesday November 23rd at 9:30.  Please put this date on your calendars so that you are able to join us if your schedule allows.  We will also be collecting NON Perishable food items to donate to our food pantry. All students have a part in the prayer service.  Please be sure to ask your child what they will be doing.  

If you would like to schedule your conference the week before or after please let me know. I am very happy to work with your schedule.

Religion:  This week we will be practicing for our November 23rd all School Prayer Service.  Please mark your calendars for the 23rd at 9:30 so that you are able to attend. As a class we will talk about the fact that Jesus helps us show kindness to others. We will also talk about the ways in which we have grown and changed in the last year.

Reading:  We will be reading passages this week about the history of Thanksgiving. As we are reading these passages, we will be working on our comprehension skills.  The students will also be working on the iReady website to enhance this reading skills.

Spelling:  Our words this week have a Thanksgiving theme to them.  The homework for spelling will be writing 15 sentences using one of the spelling words in each sentence.  

Phonics: The students will read and practice directions as we review the rules for consonant blends. We will also review the sounds that Y makes when acting as a vowel.

Math: The students will learn and put into practice ARRAYS to solve multiplication problems. They will also practice the zero and identity properties of multiplication as they create flashcards for 0’s and 1’s facts.   

Social Studies:  The students will continue learning about Communities around our country.  This week we will read about the community of Denver Colorado and what the word location means.   We will learn about the history, location and geography of Denver, Colorado.  As we are working through the first chapter of our Social Studies Curriculum, the students are using their books to answer questions about the material we are covering each day.  The work they are doing is assigned on Monday and due on Friday.  ALL WORK WILL BE COMPLETED in class.

Writing:  We are working on persuasive stories this month.  The students will continue writing their stories from a turkey’s point of view trying to convince us to eat a different main course for Thanksgiving dinner.  If your child needs extra time to complete their stories they will be bring it home with them.   Please work with your child to correct spelling and punctuation on their stories.

Tuesday November 16th:  8:00 am Mass today.  PLEASE be sure to be at school at 7;45 so that we can be in Church on time.

Friday November 19th:  Please send any library books back to school so that your child can check out new books today.  

Tuesday November 23rd:  9:30 Prayer Service.  Please plan to join us if you are able to.  Parent teacher conferences will be virtual this trimester.  All students have a part in the prayer service.  Please be sure to ask your child what they will be doing.  Yes we have GYM on this day but Miss Pryor is OK with use wearing our dress school uniform as long as we WEAR GYM SHOES instead of dress.  If you would like to schedule your conference the week before or after please let me know. I am very happy to work with your schedule.

My name is Lisa Gearen. I started teaching at St. Cletus in 2003. I taught first grade for 14 years and now teach 3rd. I have a bachelors degree in Communication and a Masters in Elementary Education. I received both degrees from Concordia University.
