Third Grade News and Up Coming Events

Religion:  This week we will be preparing for Catholic Schools week.  All students need to being in a hanger and a St. Cletus Sweatshirt or other St. Cletus shirt for a special OPEN HOUSE project.  These two items are needed by Friday January 28th.  Thank you in advance.

Reading:  The students will be reading a story this week about a tribe in Alaska named the “The Athabascans”.  The class will learn the ways these people lived and their cultures.

Spelling:  Our spelling words this week contain the SCHWA sound.  The SCHWA sound in phonetic spellings, is the most common vowel sound in English.  It is a lightly pronounced vowel sound only in unstressed syllables.    The SCHWA sound can be represented by any vowel: a – about, e – over, i – pencil, o – seldom, u – upon, and y – syringe.  This week the SCHWA sound will be spelled using:  a,u or e.

Phonics:  WC will brain storm list of contractions and then create a project showing their understanding.  We will also review the rules for adding -s and -es to make singular words plural.

Math:  We will be take the end of Chapter 4 test this week.  The students have been reviewing the concepts that were covered in the chapter both at school and home.  This weekend please spend some time review the chapter review with your child so that they are ready for the Chapter 4 test on Monday and Tuesday.

Science:  Technology Projects are DUE ON MONDAY JANUARY 24th.  The students will be presenting their projects Monday through Friday (5 projects each day).  The projects will be displayed at the Catholic Schools Week Open House on Sunday January 30th.  Please make your calendars to remind you to attend.

Tuesday January 25th:  School attending 8:00am Mass.  PLEASE be on time.  Technology Project Presentations continue.

Wednesday January 26th:  Technology Project Presentations continue.

Thursday January 27th:  Technology Project Presentations continue.

Friday January 28th:  Poem Presentations and Technology Project Presentations continue.

Sunday January 30th:  Catholic Schools Week begins.  Open Mass will be at 10:30.  Students are encouraged to wear their school uniforms to Mass to show their school pride.  WATCH FOR MORE DETAILS AND LIST OF EVENTS THAT WILL BE HAPPENING THROUGH THE WEEK.
