Religion:  This week we begin the season of LENT in preparation for Easter.  We will attend Maas on Wednesday to receive our Ashes.  Please join us on Wednesday at 9:30 if your schedule allows.  The students will take  a look at the meaning of the season and think of something they can do to show their beliefe.

Reading:  The students will be sharing their dioramas about the historic fiction novels they read with the class.  These dioramas will be in the room for Parent Teacher Conferences as well.  Thank you in advance for the help and support you gave your child as they created their favorite scene from their novels.  We will also continue reading “The Year of Miss Agnes” and her  adventures with her students in Alaska.

Phonics: The class will practice adding the suffixes – ful, -ly, -ness, -ion, -ment, -en, -able, -ible and -y to the end of words.  They will see how these endings change the meaning of the basewords.

Spelling:  The spelling words this week will have the R CONTROLLED vowel sound of /or/.

Math: During the week the students will look at dvision problems as grouping a larger number into smaller equal groups. They will use models and bar graphs to solve division problems too.  They will use algebra and repeated subtraction to relate subtraction and division.

Social Studies:  This week the students will read about ethnic groups, Jane Addams and her contributions to her community, and other ancestors who impacted our world.
