Third Grade News and Up Coming Events

Thank you all so much for coming to Parent Teacher Conferences on Thursday March 10th.  It was so very nice to meet you all in person.

I gave out the March / April book report project directions that night as well.  The choice sheet for the project is due this Wednesday March 16th.  I will be sending the sheet home on Monday.   “The Who Was” books are great for this project.  We have many in the Library.  Please look these books up on line to see the titles.  When you and your child agree on a person please let me know and I will check to see if we have it in the school library.

Religion:  Students will be reciting the March Poem to me THIS Tuesday.  Please be sure to practice with your child.  We will also be talking about the Marks of the Church.  The students will learn about Jesus and the Apostles who lead the Church and the duties of the Pope and bishops in our Religion

Reading:  We will finish our current book “The Year of Miss Agnes.”  As we read the student will continue using the close reading method to find answers to questions from our daily reading.  The students will also be defining words from the story as review for a short test about the book.

Spelling:  We will continue to work with the St. Patrick’s Day words from last week.  The students will have two spelling sheets for home work this week that will be due on Friday.  PLEASE encourage your child to take their time and show pride in their work as they are completing the work.  During the week in class the students will be working on projects to enhance their knowledge of these words as well.

Grammar / Phonics:  We will spend time reviewing the concepts covered in Unit 4.

Math:  Using Algebra the students will learn to relate Multiplication and division and write the related facts. Students will also use Algebra and review division rules for dividing  1’s and 0’s.

Social Studies:  The class will learn what an ancestor is and the influences they had on our world.   We will also read about places immigrants came from and how they survived when they first came to America.  Students will learn about the immigrant artisit Emanual Gottlieb Leutze.
