Religion:  This week in Religion we will be reviewing for our first Religion test.  The students have been learning more about the fact that God sent Us His Son.  We took a look at what Jesus’ life may have been like at our age as the son of a carpenter.   We’ve learned the meaning of these words: Blessed Trinity, Incarnation, Prophet, Repent, Public Ministry, Disciple, and Apostle.

Reading:  The students will continue to enjoy reading about the adventures of Drake Doyle and Nell Fossy as they help their friends solve mysteries using their scientific know how.  As we are reading the “Case of the Gasping Garbage”, the students are being introduced to the concept of close reading.  Close reading has the class asking and answering questions while siting text examples directly from the book.

Phonics:  We are starting the second unit in our Phonics work book.  This unit has the class reviewing the short vowel sounds of a, e, i ,o, and u

Spelling:  Our new spelling words this week have the class working with the sounds oo and ew in words.  During the week the students will work with these spelling word as they complete analogies and make inferences to given clues.  They will also work with segmentation of the spelling words as well as rhyming them with other word.  We will take the weekly spelling tests this Friday October 1st.

Math:  The first weeks of the school year we worked with many different concepts in math such as: rounding, regrouping, compatible number, identity and communitive property of addition.  This week we will be take the Chapter 1 test on Wednesday and Thursday 

Science:  This week in Science the class will be learning the five different steps used in conducting experiments.  These steps include:  1.  Asking a question  2.  Make a Hypothesis  3.  Predicting and planning an investigation  4.  Experimenting and finally 5.  Drawing a conclusion.

Up Coming Event

Monday September 27th:  FULL WEEK OF SCHOOL!!!!!!

Tuesday September 28th:  Mass at 8:00.  Please be at school by 7:45 so that we can get to Mass on time.  Please also remind your child to use the washroom before coming to school.

Thursday September 30th:  September poems will be recited today.  Props and costumes are welcome.  If your child is bringing props or costumes please remember that they should be easy to put on and store when not in use.

Friday October 1st:  Math Simple Solutions Lessons are DUE on TODAY!!!
